Gene Lamis joined Edward Jones in 1993 as a branch office specialist. He became a financial advisor in 1994 and the following year opened an office in Fort Worth, where he continues to serve investors today. Since joining Edward Jones, Gene has served as a recruiting leader and performance leader. In addition, on three occasions, he has invited another financial advisor to join him the community to better serve local investors. He has also attended the Managing Parter's Conference and Financial Advisor Leaders Conference. In 2011, Lamis was asked to serve as a regional leader. In this role, he guides and supports more than 40 branch teams located throughout the southwestern portion of the DFW area. He was named a principal with the firm in 2014. A native of Ottawa, Ill, Gene earned a degree in agribusiness economics from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and AAMS professional desingnations. Director of Recreation and Lifelong Learning for the City of Burleson

When Parks & Recreation Director Peter Krause retired Jan. 29, 2016, Burleson City Manager Dale Cheatham combined Parks & Recreation and the Burleson Public Library under one umbrella – the Recreation & Lifelong Learning Department. Marc Marchand, who has served as the director of the Burleson Public Library for more than two years, will serve as director of the new department. The Recreation & Lifelong Learning department’s focus on programs for lifelong learning, community engagement, quality spaces for free play and athletic experiences, as well as ensuring the best use of community resources through continuous process improvement, will be accomplished through some minor adjustments to the organizational structure using existing talent. Marc Marchand will be be updating us on what is happening with regard to recreation and lifelong learning here in Burleson. “There are so many exciting things happening in Burleson, thanks to citizen involvement and community leadership,” Marchand said. “It is a humbling and profound honor to have the opportunity to serve our community, this team, and to be a part of all that we are doing together.” If you would like to know more or get involved, please click here. |

Rotary District 5790 Youth Exchange Scholarship Program & Family to Family Exchange

Norm King will be providing us with our district's Youth Exchange Program. He is the charter member of Kennedate Rotary Club, and the current District 5970 Youth Exchange Officer. Thr Rotary Youth Exchange Program has been an integral part of Rotary International since 1974. The program is a means of advancing international understading and goodwill. Each year more than 8,000 students from 82 countries are involved in the Rotary Youth Exchange program, making it one of Rotary's largest, most popular and most sucessful programs. It is also one of the largest high school exchange programs in the world. The Youth Exchange Scholarship Program offers the opportunity for year porgram students to receive a scholarship valued at over $15,000 to study in a different country. The scholarship covers tuition, room and board and a monthly stipend. The program is open to all young men and women ages 15 to 18 1/2. The students family is financially repsonsible for airfare, insurance, and fees associated with obtaining VISAS and travel documents. Student selection is based on submission of a written application followed by personal interviews at the club and district levels with the applicant and the applicant's parents. Rotary District 5790 has had an active youth exchange program since 1985. The program is administered through the local Rotary Clubs with assistance from the District Rotary Youth Exchange Committee. Tina joined the Navy in 1982 and retired in 2005. Starting out as an enlisted Air Traffic Controller and promoting through the ranks, completing her service, as a Lieutenant Commander, overseeing a Mine Warfare School in Ingleside. After her naval retirement in Corpus, she found herself as the Director of Stadium Operations for the Corpus Christi Hooks (double A affiliate of the Houston Astros). She managed the stadium for 9 seasons. Working for Nolan Ryan and his sons was a dream come true. Tina is the current Board of Directors President for Sinaca Studios, School Of Glass and Gallery. SiNaCa Studios was founded by five local glass artisits in 2007. The organization's initial focus was threefold. First, bringing the glass art community together to hold exhibitions, promote glass as an artistic medium, and generate funds toward founding a school. Secong, use the funds raised to open a facility deisgned to impact the community through glass arts. Third, leverage the new facility to provide accessible, educaitonal, and affordale experiences for the general public, as well as teach courses to share the traditions and technigies of all disciplines of studio glass, Since first opening their doors in January 2011, over 7,000 diverse people have participated in classes, and over 30,000 have visited their studios. Their free monthly "Open Studios" event alone has drawn over 15,000 visitors through the facility to view demonstrations, interact with performing artists, and browse the onite gallery.
